Empowering Halifax Through Community Voice

Updated: Aug 25

One thing is abundantly clear: our community is full of ideas, passion, and a desire to be heard. My vision is to empower each of you through an innovative approach to public engagement – community polls and surveys.

Bringing Your Voice to the Forefront

Your voice matters. In our journey towards a brighter future for Halifax, I believe the best way to ensure our policies reflect your needs and aspirations is by actively involving you in the decision-making process. That’s why, as your mayor, I will implement a comprehensive polling and survey service to gather feedback on the issues that matter most.

Learning from Success

My approach is inspired by the success of other Canadian municipalities that have harnessed the power of public input to drive positive change.

  • Vancouver’s Talk Vancouver Platform: Thousands of Vancouver residents have engaged with their city through this platform, shaping decisions on housing, transportation, and public spaces. The insights gained from these surveys have led to more informed and effective policies, directly reflecting the community’s desires.

  • Toronto’s Consultation on Parks and Recreation: By seeking input from residents, Toronto successfully developed a Parks and Recreation Facilities Master Plan that truly meets the needs of its diverse population. This transparent and inclusive process has set a benchmark for how community engagement can transform urban planning.

  • Engage Calgary: Through Engage Calgary, residents have had their say on various issues, including budget allocations and infrastructure projects. This platform has been instrumental in ensuring that municipal decisions are rooted in the community’s collective voice.

A Plan for Halifax

Here in Halifax, I envision a similar path forward. Here’s how we’ll make it happen:

  1. Engaging Every Resident

  • Online Surveys: We will launch an easy-to-use online platform where you can share your thoughts on everything from public transportation to community services.

  • Telephone and In-Person Options: Understanding that not everyone has digital access, we’ll offer telephone surveys and in-person polling at community centers to reach every corner of our city.

2. Transparent and Actionable Feedback

  • Clear Communication: We will regularly update you on what we’re hearing and how it’s shaping our policies. Transparency will be our guiding principle, fostering trust and engagement.

  • Data-Driven Decisions: Your feedback will directly inform our policy decisions, ensuring they are grounded in the real needs and desires of Halifax residents.

3. Incentives for Participation

  • Rewards for Your Input: To encourage widespread participation, we’ll offer incentives such as prize draws and rewards for completing surveys. Your time and opinions are valuable, and we want to show our appreciation.

4. Ongoing Community Dialogue

  • Regular Updates and Consultations: This isn’t a one-time effort. We’ll maintain an ongoing dialogue with you, continuously seeking your input on new issues and providing updates on the progress of existing initiatives.

Building a Stronger Halifax Together

Imagine a Halifax where your ideas drive our progress, where every policy reflects the collective wisdom of our community. By implementing this polling and survey service, we will create a city that not only listens to its residents but also acts on their behalf.

Your voice is the cornerstone of our shared future. I am committed to ensuring it guides every step of our journey. Let’s make Halifax a shining example of how community engagement can lead to extraordinary progress.
